Interim Certificate

An interim certificate is a document that describes your performance and behavior during your current job. It is often issued when you want to change jobs or plan a long absence. For example, if you apply for parental leave, you can request an interim certificate to document your past achievements.

For residents in Germany or Austria, it is important to know that you can request an interim certificate at any time. Your employer is obliged to issue it if you provide a valid reason. There is no legally defined deadline, but it is advisable to do this early. According to § 109 of the Trade Regulation Act (GewO), you have the right to a favorable certificate.
