Fixed-Term Employment Contract
A fixed-term employment contract is an employment relationship that lasts for a specified period. For example, someone might be hired as a project manager for one year to complete a specific project. Once the year is over, the contract automatically ends unless it is extended.
For residents in Germany or Austria, it’s important to know that fixed-term contracts are usually only allowed under certain conditions, such as for replacements or seasonal work (§ 14 TzBfG). Employees have the right to be informed about the reasons for the fixed term. A common mistake is thinking that their contracts automatically renew, which is not the case.
