Overtime
Overtime is the time an employee works in addition to their regular working hours. For instance, if someone works until 8 PM on a Friday when their contract states they should finish at 5 PM, they have worked overtime.
In Germany, employees are entitled to compensation for overtime, which is usually specified in their employment contract or collective agreement. It’s crucial to document and report overtime promptly, as there are deadlines for claiming it. According to § 612 BGB, compensation for overtime can be demanded unless otherwise agreed.
