Parental Allowance

Parental allowance is a financial aid for parents who work less or not at all after the birth of their child. It aims to help parents spend time with their newborn without worrying about financial burdens. For instance, if a parent stays home for a year after the birth, they can apply for parental allowance.

For residents in Germany or Austria, it is important to submit the application for parental allowance within three months after the birth to receive full benefits. The amount of parental allowance depends on previous income and can range from 300 to 1,800 euros per month. Relevant laws include Sections 1-3 of the Federal Parental Allowance Act (BEEG).
