Legal Aid
Legal Aid is a government assistance program that helps people with low income pay for court costs. For example, if someone wants to pursue a lawsuit but cannot afford the fees, they can apply for Legal Aid. If approved, the government will cover the costs or part of them.
For residents of Germany or Austria, it’s important to submit the application on time, as it often needs to be done before the trial starts. Mistakes in the application can lead to denial. Relevant sections can be found in the law on Legal Aid (§ 114 ZPO). It’s advisable to seek legal advice beforehand to assess the chances of success.
